Sometimes… I just want to play.
Video games have come a long way, but somewhere along the way, did playing them become a little too complicated?
In this episode of The Overwhelmed Gamer Podcast , I’m talking about the difference between jumping into an older game and immediately getting started versus modern games filled with tutorials, crafting systems, inventories, skill trees, upgrade materials, daily objectives, menus, and seemingly endless things to keep track of.
That doesn’t mean modern games are bad — far from it. Some of my favorite gaming experiences come from newer games. But after returning to gaming following a long break, I’ve started to appreciate just how refreshing it can be when a game simply hands you the controller and says, “Go play.”
So where’s the sweet spot? When does depth make a game better, and when does it start getting in the way of actually enjoying it?
🎮 Do you prefer the simplicity of older games, or do you love all the systems found in modern games? Let me know what you think!
